So I've been looking at online Veterinary Technician programs.. I kind of want to try to complete and get certified as a Vet Tech before my senior year end (I just finished as a freshman) just so I have a backup in case I don't get accepted to Vet School. I go to Cornell, but I was thinking of trying to complete some sort of online program.. What are your thoughts on this?

You should look at Penn Foster’s Vet Tech Program, relatively inexpensive and goo program. Good luck!

You know, this sounds like a great idea for anyone who has the time and the extra $$ beyond regular tuition. I would think that vet-tech certification would give one a leg - up in the admissions pool and for anyone considering a gap year between ug & graduate/vet-school it would certainly make you more marketable as an employee within the profession.
Anyone out there been through vet-tech training?

I’m in a vet tech program currently but it’s not an online one, it’s a hands-on in class program. I’m not sure how the online programs work but I do know that the program that I’m in was very selective, less than 25% of the applicants were admitted. I’m also planning on going to vet school and I figured that having the CVT degree should give me a leg up on the competition however it is taking two extra years to complete beyond normal schooling. I do feel that I’m receiving a great education through the vet tech program and I think that it will help as I enter vet school with the classes I’m going to encounter there.

I have a question for CindyWC. right now i am a sophmore in high school and i want to be a vet. I thought about going to Cornell. Are you in the pre vet program and if so what type of classes do you take?
