Only Applying To One School?

Hi Everyone!
Well I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there that is only applying to one school. Now this wasn't my decision, (it was my parents, i'm lucky that they're even letting my apply to one school, let alone any at all!) But I REALLY want to go to Choate, and that is the school that I am applying to. Plus, I'm applying for the Ichan Scholarship. Any advice? :/

What do you think of [Vancouver College](http://careercollegecanada.info/) one of the best schools, or looking for something different.

I very strongly recommend applying to more than 1 school, ESPECIALLY if that 1 school is as ultra-selective as Choate, AND if you need a specific scholarship to make it economically feasible to attend.

@GMT I know! That is what i’ve been trying to tell my mom. I think she will loosen up by application time! But my mom will probably want me to stay in-state.

You’ll be sorry if you only apply to one school. It occassionally works for a few students but for the vast majority (99.99%) - it’s proven to be a bad strategy and they’re left with no choices. Of course that could be her plan all along.

@Exie It definetly is! I am going to try to convince her to let me apply to at least another school. Probably one that’s less selective!

If the cost to apply to multiple schools is a financial hardship, many schools will consider waiving the application fee.

I only applied to one school last year ( Deerfield ), and got in. As was said before, I was just one of the really lucky ones. It’s better to have something to fall back on if your number one pick doesn’t work out for you.

I strongly recommend NOT to only apply to one school. There is a VERY slim chance that, if you are applying to a school with a less than 25% acceptance rate, you would be accepted and have all the financial factors taken care of (i.e. financial aid). What happened with me is that I applied to four schools: one waitlisted me, one didn’t give financial aid, and one was a school my parents thought was very out of the way. So that left me with one choice. Really–one school is not nearly enough to ensure that you will be going to prep school for the 2012-2013 year!

Thanks for the feedback everyone! It’s greatly appreciated  I am probably going to add a less selective school to my list.

A friend of mine only applied to Andover last year and got in; I applied to six schools overall and didn’t get in to Andover. (We’re about equal candidates.) The possible advantage is that if you only apply to one school, the school knows that if they let you in, you’ll go there. This could make them a bit more likely to admit you, especially of they’re trying to chose between you and someone who applied to ten schools. But it’s definitely still a risk.

Whoo! @HouseofCards, that was such a sigh a relief! I finally gained some hope! Lol.

HouseOfCards said it perfectly.

I applied to two schools, got accepted at the one I wanted, waitlisted at the “safety”, if that helps. It’s better to apply to more, but the whole process is unpredictable.

But really, don’t rely on one school alone! It is far better to have “a back-up plan”.

correct me if im wrong, but when you apply to choate with FA, you cant apply for a specific scholarship, you´re considered for them as you apply.

@ BronxKid I’m not sure, but on the GoChoate page, there is an application for the Ichan Scholars program. You probably know more than I do! Haha

i wouldn´t noe xD my program did all the financial aid stuff for me… just a thought xD i think ichan is the only excpetion

Oh okay! Are you going to Choate? If you are, have a blast!

I’m scared to apply to one school… Because if I don’t get in when I apply to one school then I’ll regret not choosing some others, and if I apply to lots then I’ll regret it for not applying to only one and I’d have a better chance…

I understand exactly on how you feel! What is your top school?
