i took both apush and ap lang this school year but i’m quickly realizing that history is not my strong suit. signing up for the ap tests has already passed. should i drop the class or just complete it without taking the ap test? i would most likely be able to make a borderline B if i continue
If you’re signed up for the AP test than it doesn’t hurt to take it. Submitting your score is optional almost everywhere.
If you are getting a borderline B, you can work a little harder and make that a B or B+. Dropping APUSH at this late date isn’t going to look great on your application. What would you do next semester? You won’t be able to fill your schedule with anything more rigorous for a single semester, and you’ll have a noticeable gap. Colleges like to see students challenge themselves. A solid B in APUSH is better than a C for sure, and much better than dropping it altogether, IMO.
As for the test, you’ve missed the deadline. I know of no college that requires an AP test score, because a lot of students can’t afford to pay for AP tests. I don’t think it matters that you don’t take it. What matters is getting a good grade in a tough course. A B is a good grade.
Also consider the colleges you’re applying to. If you’re aiming high, dropping APUSH is not a good idea.
My D took several AP classes without taking the test. We knew the kind of schools she would attend wouldn’t take the credit for certain classes, so it wasn’t worth the money or time. It’s not at all uncommon… stay in the class.
