I just learned that Elon only offers on campus auditions. Im new to this but is that the norm? I know some schools attend Unifieds but is it usual for the auditions be solely on campus. Really disappointed as there will be no way financially we can travel to North Carolina for my daughter to audition on campus. Just curious as we head into the audition season.

Hey there! I’m an incoming freshman to the program. Actually, this year will be the first year that you can send in prescreens rather than having to travel to campus for the initial audition. Here’s the link to the Audition page which has more information! I wish y’all the best this year and let me know if you have anymore questions! :)

@rittelette – some schools require on site auditions – Baldwin Wallace, Indiana University, Elon and University of Oklahoma all require on campus auditions – those are just the ones I know about that are on my daughter’s list. All of these schools offer a video prescreen, but then you travel to the campus for the audition.

Hi - Yes, as rittlette says, this year Elon is pre-screening their application pool. This is only make a a less overwhelming number of applicants come to the auditions at the school. This does not in any way keep you from needing to audition n site. Many schools require you to audition on site - it is not at all unusual. I know it is an expense, but it is important for the incoming student to “audition” the school as well - you should see and feel what the place you may bbe living for four years is all about. It is not a bad thing.

Yes, the past several years the number of auditionees at Elon has become nearly unmanageable. They have been discussing doing this for a while to scale things back a bit. But auditions will still be on campus.

Just a shame because it really cuts out the kids (like mine) who can’t visit onsite, we’d be coming from L.A. so the expense is just not possible. We plan to do Unifieds and prescreens but dont think we’ll really be able to visit until acceptances. Just not possible. Are there any other big programs that dont do regional auditions?

Indiana University, Baldwin Wallace, University of Oklahoma, FSU(?) – all require on-campus auditions

Some of the schools will allow you to submit by DVD if you are far away. We are also on the West Coast and faced the same issues.

Too bad. My D really wanted to audition at Elon, but finances only stretch so far (Moonifieds & Chicago) so I guess it is coming off the list. Darn…
