oooo

ok so for OOS (out of state) students, do we have to have a more rigorous courseload than say, the average applicant for Cal? I'm interested in applying as one but as of yet, I don't know what extra I have to squeeze in before my senior year begins.

I’m not sure, but I know that Cal wants to accept more OOS students (because of the budget cuts), so you might not have to try as hard as past OOS students.

I think for out of state students, a higher SAT + SAT II score and GPA are needed. Extracurriculars become more important as a determining factor along with the essay.

One of my friends here is from out of state. She did this prestigious programs through her high school in which she basically started to take all college classes since her sophomore year. She has a perfect SAT score and a 3.98 GPA in the college she was at (University of Texas I believe). I’m sure she wrote terrific essays and did a bunch of extracurriculars.

Granted she was accepted to College of Chemistry (which is more difficult to get in than L & S) AND she’s also a Regent Scholar. so… you don’t need to be as overachieving as she was :P

Another girl I know, also out of state and accepted to College of Chemistry, had okay GPA and SAT scores (~75 percentile of all accepted Berkeley student) but she did some research at some university, which earned her brownie points.
