How hard is it to get in for those applicants outside of California?

Thanks

Fyi, the term is OOS (out of state).

It’s significantly harder to get into Cal being OOS. A good number is probably 2200 SAT and more “nicer” ECs.

so if my SAT scores are around 2000’s, and I have a great background, I still have a low chance? I came to US four years ago; so scoring like over 2000’s is sort of too difficult for me. Have you seen my chance thread?

If you think you have an excellent background, you may still be able to get in. Although many tend to say that Cal has a big focus on numbers (GPA, SAT, etc.), I have multiple friends with way-below-average scores that get into Cal. Of course, this is in California.

Cal approaches their applicants holistically. Make sure everything you submit is top-notch. If possible, do try to raise your SAT scores. If you’re struggling with CR, I suggest you take a look at RocketReview. I’m an immigrant as well, so I know where you’re coming from, and that book really helped me.

GL!

Ok thanks! I will look into it. Why are SAT’s so important anyways? I mean I understand that they measure one’s abilities, but take me for instance, I have been in US for four years not knowing English initially. I did IB last year and I got straight A’s and A+'s. I have to admit I worked my back off, but I DID IT. I am capable of tackling hard core programs; does Berkeley look at the whole package or as you said just SAT scores? I checked their website and their SAT 50% was not really high! chicago is higher…

Although you should try to bump up your scores, don’t kill yourself doing it. You should focus on presenting yourself as a well-rounded person. I think your score is high enough. Personally, I didn’t have stellar scores and still got into Berkeley. Good luck!

How many SAT II do I need? I have two one in World History and one in Math I; I can still retake them; also does Berkeley have a ED/EA?

two and no EA/ED

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t all UCs need SAT II Math IIC? If so, be warned that your Math I will be invalidated.

yes, math II is required if you plan on doing the math SAT IIs.

ok so I should take Math II; I will do that.

bluepurple: “does Berkeley look at the whole package or as you said just SAT scores?”

When I said “holistically”, I mean that UCs look at the whole package. A low GPA can be taken into less consideration if you have a high SAT, and vice versa. But do know that they look at the whole package.

Well if they want a dedicated student, I don’t know anyone above me. I have been in US four years, and I have excelled at HS. I rank 1 in my class, and it came with many many sleepless nights. I can assure you, I have not seen anyone as hard working as myself.

As far as diversity goes, I am the total packet too, I came from Iran because of religious reasons. I have alot to tell.

I do not want to sound haughty but I have worked my butt off during HS and iin these last four years, so I have the total packet, I think.

I have low SAT scores but I’ll bring them higher.

The only thing I dont like bout Berkeley is its size! It’s HUGE!!

Math is NOT required for admission. The UC’s will not accept Math 1, so if you want to take a math, it must be Math 2. But, you are allowed to take any two Subject Tests as long as they are in different disciplines. If you are applying to Engineering, however, Math 2 is highly recommended.
