Hello, I was wondering what would my chances be of getting into any CSUs with a 3.75 weighted GPA and a 26 composite ACT? I have over 150 hours of community service and volunteer work and have been in various clubs at my school. I have already applied to CSUSB and CSUDH. I am also a DACA student and that is why I am choosing to attend an out of state school instead of a NC school because I pay OOS tuition and fees regardless. My question is just about my chances and the school itself. How is CSUSB and CSUDH and the student life?
Why these CSU’s? You GPA and ACT scores could get you into better ranked CSU’s such as CSU Fullerton , Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach, San Jose State and San Francisco state. What is your intended major? These CSU’s are very commuter oriented. Is this is what you want for your college experience?
@Gumbymom well I like the campus for CSUSB but specifically I want to be sure I’ll get accepted
My major is psychology and yes I’m fine with commuter schools I make friends either way
If you are happy with your choices, then so be it. I think you can do better and the other campuses mentioned are far nicer than CSUSB in my personal opinion.
@Gumbymom Like which campuses? I’m open to any suggestion lol
@Gumbymom I also forgot to mention my unweighted gpa which is terrible, 2.9. Thats why I don’t think I’ll have much of a chance getting into other CSUs considering I’m also oos
Because of your low unweighted GPA, and the fact that your ACT score doesn’t make up for it, I do agree that your chances as an OOS student at some of the better CSUs is limited especially at campuses already considered impacted. PP is right though, many of the schools you mention are very commuter-orientated and students there might not really be looking for the average college experience that might be at other schools.
You need to calculate your CSU GPA, since this is used in the eligibility index calculation. http://www.csumentor.com/planning/high_school/gpa_calculator.asp
Then calculate your EI: (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT comp x10). As an applicant, you will be ranked by your EI and major.
I would look at some of the non-impacted campuses for Psychology: Channel Islands, Monterey, East Bay, San Marcos, Stanislaus, Humbodlt, Bakersfield and Fresno.
@Gumbymom I just calculated my CSU GPA and I got a 3.16 and a 892 eligibility index. I wanted to stay near LA Inland area so SoCal
I would possibly apply to Cal State LA, Northridge and Cal Poly Pomona if you are able to afford the fees. I think you have a good chance at Cal State LA. The other 2 campuses may be a slight reach but worth applying.
Good Luck.
