OOS Carolina Scholars- Notification with admission?

Any OOS been offered Carolina Scholar or Honors? Nothing in mail today, but online acceptance letter is now up. Nothing about scholarship or honors program though- does that mean didn't get either or will be posted later?

Merit scholarships and honors program invites should come in the next week (I'm pretty sure they come after the actual acceptance).

My scholarship notification. came last year after my acceptance letter, which I didn't know then, so I left the envelope unopened on my floor for a few days before bothering to look inside, figuring it was too late for scholarship notification. I was quite surprised and pleased when I did get around to reading the letter. Good luck to all of you!

Thanks- at least I know there's still hope!

Any OOS been offered Carolina Scholar or other scholarships? or when?

It's been almost a week after admission notification. Has anyone heard anything about scholarship offers?

cajundad :(
UNC is done handing out scholarships. I talked to them and to Chicago this morning. That's it. Nada.

And my D was accepted EA into the Honors program, so I got my hopes up unfortunately.

So no one on here except nckid got anything....I find that a little hard to believe, but I guess there were a lot of good applicants. I'm just glad that I got Honors Program, but unfortunately I also got my hopes up.

chocoholic,

thanks for the head up. nada here either. not even Honors Program. Oh, well...

humbucker, are you out-of-state? I know how you feel....you put in the effort to apply by Nov 15, get accepted into the Honors program, which is only 200 freshmen (including in-staters), and start thinking, wow, maybe I will get a few bucks...

Maybe the merit $$ is not really merit $$. Cause they told us that being in Honors does not guarantee $$, and getting $$ does not guarantee Honors, which is kind of twisted. Aren't they the same thing ?

I got a likely letter but no money or honors program. That's pretty silly.

I am instate and I think I messed up my chances for a scholarship when I told the admissions office that UNC was the only place I applied. :</p>

Oh well...merit money would have been nice, but fortunately my family is blessed enough to pay for tuition.

Chris UNC '09

ElectronicError, I feel kind of the same way. I got a huge scholarship at Wake Forest, a smaller one from the University of Chicago and Davidson, and a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins. From UNC...nada. Is in-state competition really that fierce, or are most of the scholarships slated for out-of-staters? Right now, it's more expensive than some of the private schools on my list!!!

I don't know of any out-of-stater on this thread that got Robertson, Morehead or Carolina Scholars this year?
Please tell us if you did, in-state or out-of-state, really want someone on cc to get something.

Same deal -- likely letter, EA admission, honors college, but no $$. Are we sure that's the ballgame?

Compscidad, it looks like they are throwing us crumbs, by accepting our students into the Honors program, but not giving any money. Anyone can register for an Honors seminar or H.class if they have a certain gpa, without being in the "program".

You can only register for an honors program class on a space available basis if not in the program. As COtarheel has mentioned , there are not a lot of offerings each semester and the better classes do fill fast as those in the program get priority early regisitration.

Robertson Finalist weekend was this past weekend and I do not think decisions are out yet...perhaps tomorrow for those involved, and the official announcement later in the week.

compscidad/chocoholic

Have you spoke with the admissions dept (not Fin Aid) about merit awards and the importance they play in your decision? I know for a fact that this worked last year for someone we know.

OOS RD- got likely letter- no honors, no $$$. Decided on Emory w/ full tuition scholarship.

the robertson scholars had their interview weekend this past weekend and we will receive the results this friday
