So I was wondering a couple of things about UCSD. First, how many students apply to UCSD from out-of-state. Not necessarily get in, but just how many apply from OOS. Second, what’s the acceptance rate for out-of-state applicants? If you know either of these two points, I would appreciate a reply.
2015 data:
Applications Admissions Admit rate SIRs Yield
CA 53,665 16,182 30.2% 3,705 22.90%
OOS 9,731 4,516 46.4% 436 9.65%
Intl 14,695 5,797 39.4% 1,420 24.50%
Bear in mind OOS applicant pools have always had dramatically higher GPAs and SATs than the instate pool at every UC without any exception so the difference in admission rates is not at all surprising. But the lower yield despite a CA beach city location is because the UCs are very expensive for OOS students. Internationals are always full pay.
