Son has yet to sign up for housing, and while he has done some research, it’s had to tell what would be best. I understand the dorms away from the main campus are newer, likely nicer, but he doesn’t like the thought of having to take a bus. Welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance!
What is his major?
The top 3 OOS are CA, IL, TX in that order.
All those interested in Dorms…go to "Housing and Dining, click on options.’ Then click on any dorm picture
for details, including which majors are within each dorm.
Sewall is among oldest, built in 1920’s, Baker was built in 1938 and refurbished in 2014. Kittredge is newer
for on main campus built around 1980, most have been refurbished in Kitt.
Newer dorms are found in Williams Village including “East” which will open in Fall 2019. These are high rises
holding near and over 700 students each. You can walk to main campus in the nice weather approx. 1+ miles.
In the winter months the buses are free. OR rent a bike from CU they maintain them.
He’s in A&S and will be coming from AL.
Its getting late in the game, just a guess but the Farrand Field dorms are all spoken for, and maybe Kittredge too. I would list the engineering quad dorms as they are on the main campus and usually the last to fill up (on main campus).
CU Boulder does tend to separate by major, with some living and learning housing. I don’t know that an Arts and Sciences major would want to be with the engineers, but maybe. Williams Village does not require a bus. Its an easy walk and its on campus in the sense, that its nine month leases, owned by the university, near the better cafeteria, and newer rec center, and also has a close in heath center. I think Williams Village is also friendly and easy for upper class students who want to cook and not have to buy furniture and deal with landlords in Boulder, or sign leases. One issue with Boulder off campus housing, is roommates can and do flunk out. If you rent from Williams village, you have no
possible chance of losing money, as the university rents to your student. If your student shares with students who flunk out, you can be held liable for the entire bill, and be signing a 12 month lease too. Its not easy to move off campus and deal with landlords as a sophomore, but its often what happens, so look into Williams Village now, it may be the best place for a boy from Alabama , all four years.
Here are photos of Williams Village East, the newest on campus dorm. Williams Village is a campus now, think of it as “South Residential campus” Walking distance to class with cafeteria near your dorm. https://living.colorado.edu/content/williams-village-east
