OOS student flying home

How do OOS students get to major airports (Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, BWI)? Are there buses, ride share bulletins…? Trying to plan our dd’s trip home to Vegas for Christmas.

Yes, all of what you mentioned are available. Hopefully, a student can list where you can or your student find these resources. My son is out or I’d ask him.

In any case, there is also the UniversityParkAirport that connects to some of the major hubs. United, American and I believe one other fly in and depart from there. At least 25 direct flights available. I think Las Vegas maybe one of those. I do not know how expensive it is or not. It’s just good to know info.

Megabus operates regularly, as does the Greyhound system, to Philly and Pburgh. The Sc airport has direct flightts to Philadelphia, Harrisburg , DC and Chicago. There’s an amtrak station in Lewistown (about 35 minutes away) to make a connection to 30th St station in Philadelphia (then you take the Septa airport bus for $7). The Greyhound station is walking distance right next to campus, the others all require someone to give you a ride or a minimal taxi trip.

Fullington/Greyhound usually operates extra buses for breaks that are going to the airports. You are smart to be arranging this now! It is good to have a plan B for weather issues, too.

My son had to fly “home” either to Houston or New Orleans. We almost always flew him in and out of State College via Washington/Dulles (occasionally Philly). The time/expense/hassle of getting to Pittsburgh/etc on a bus, then finding a way to the airport - was worth the cost of flying out of State College.

Now - keep in mind - in/out at major holidays get pricey and get booked quickly, so plan and book ahead!!!

Greenbutton - (first - Hi!) - is the greyhound to the airports new??? I was never able to find that option before. Usually the buses (at least to Pittsburgh) took them to the main train station in town.

(Hi!)

I think the airport runs were an experiment – I hadn’t seen them before either. Whether they do it or not this year is anybody’s guess…
