Travel from California to Penn State

I am planning on coming out to visit but I am unsure what airport to fly into. All the major airports are far from the campus and I am not sure if I can fly into the local airport. How do students get from the major airports to the campus? Is there a shuttle?

Don’t fly to the University Park Airport. It will add 300 bucks.

Fly to Pittsburgh or Philadelphia(whichever one is cheaper) or Harrisburg. Take the greyhound or megabus to state college.

I attend university park and I am from San Diego. What I do is I fly to detroit then to State College.
It honestly isnt that bad, and you rack up some good mileage for benefits on later flights

Bigmhyun… I am also from San Diego. What airline do you fly? and how much is round-trip tikcet?

I’d recommend trying Harrisburg and if you can’t do that then just fly into Philly and then you have a bit of a drive. Worth visiting for sure though. Unfortunately the school was placed smack-dab in the middle of the state and that was actually done to make it more accessible. Had the opposite effect though.

Philly is more than “a bit” of a drive, particularly after flying all day. It’s a good three hours. And yes, State College is right in the middle of the state, and flights are limited. During school breaks, there are buses you can take to Philly, NYC and PGH to make connections.

Mm round trip ticket prices depend on when you purchase the ticket, because as you get closer to the date you want to fly prices go up. I use Delta if im flying to Detroit or I use us airways when I am flying to DC

Bigmhyun, just to clarify for the OP, you actually fly into University Park Airport, correct? I have never tried to catch a megabus from one of the surrounding cities and am not sure how convenient their pickup points are to those airports. (The State College drop-off is an easy bus or taxi ride from campus.)

XtremePower, how close are the megabus stops to any of the airports you mention?

Megabus stop in Pittsburgh is at the Lawrence convention center
Megabus stop in Philly is at the 30th st station on the North side of JFK. Both would necessitate a taxi ride
