As OOS students, what are the pros and cons to enroll in IU? How do you like IU overall? We are Illinois residents and daughter is admitted to Kelly Business School. She is also admitted to Biology at University of UIUC, and likely needs to make a decision between IU and UI, unless any reach university admits her.

How is the nureoscience program at IU? It appears that IU offers nureouscience major to undergraduates but UI offers only to graduate students. Is that right? Thanks!

There are so many kids from illinois at IU. I’m sure they all love it if there’s such a high population of them. Sometimes, I feel like I’m actually in Illinois as opposed to Indiana just based on the sheer amount of kids who tell me they’re from some Chicago suburb or the other. This has really nothing to do with your post, but I figure since there’s so many of them they obviously like it here. And a lot of them know each other so networking and making friends is easy.

It kind of blows that you have to pay OOS tuition for being so close, but most people don’t seem to mind that all that much… LOTS of Illinois kids in Kelley, so your daughter certainly won’t be alone…

I am from Illinois and after my scholarships it was actually cheaper for me to attend IU as opposed to UI. That, plus the fact that Indiana has the better business school made it a very easy decision for me to attend Indiana. The campus is a lot nicer and I love the people here. There are a lot of business majors who made the exact same decision for very similar reasons. If your daughter knows she wants to be an accountant she should consider Illinois, but for any other business major IU has the edge over UI.

Indiana does have a pretty good neuroscience major. It is intense from what I have heard, but if your goal is med school it has some amazing placement (one of my friends is going to med school at John Hopkins next year).

If your daughter wants to major in business or neuroscience I would recommend attending Indiana, but if she wants to major in biology then she should consider Illinois.

Leila and Max, thank you very much for both of your inputs. Your posts are in good details are very helpful. We visited IU campus last fall and my daughter loves the campus. We will attend the Kelly DA day next weekend, and hopefully will experience more and learn more. At the same time, any more comments/inputs will be appreciated. She will less likely study accountancy but loves neuroscience and business in general.
