I’m curious (and need stimulation due to the shelter-in-place situation), how are you other out-of-state transfer folks planning to pay? Lots of need-based financial aid? Some scholarships we don’t know about? Family has money to pay? We are upper middle class, and the price tag is just too high considering other options. If you’re stretching or borrowing, did you not have cheaper options? Did you choose UM despite it being more expensive? If so, what were the compelling reasons?
It is pretty tough to transfer to a OOS school esp if you are coming from a instate flagship, the cost difference is somehow more real and jarring. It really depends on what your paying now vs what the OOS school will cost, there is less aid for OOS transfer vs first years. Most of the people I know who do have their family pay it, also it depends how many credits transfer.
If your asking first year in state vs out of state , you hope for a decent amount of merit aid, the FA should roughly be the same at each school I would think. Also sometimes it comes down to a private college vs a OOS flagship and the money difference is not that great or maybe cheaper.
