OPEN THREAD: Ask an FIT Student!

Ebs,

you can look at course availability in the myfit portal and there you should see the times for classes to get an idea.

Can anyone help me out?

So when I submitted the essay for FIT, most of my apostrophes and quote marks turned into question marks. For example: There?s, I?ve, isn?t. I couldn’t change it after I realized what happened when I printed out a copy of it. What should I do?

Hi!
I am applying for the Colour specialist course at FIT (Spring 2014). Could anybody please tell me how helpful is the course? i am a fashion design graduate and want to do this small course. Also i am an out of state student, so i’ll need accomodation for 3 months. Is the dorm the best place to stay for a totally unknown outsider?

and does FIT provide financial aid for small courses?
Please help!

@skydesign mine did the same thing…did you copy and paste into the text box? I thankfully caught it as i scrolled through to make sure everything pasted ok. In retrospect now I’m paranoid i forgot one of them. i say give them a call and ask or maybe post it on their fb page and see what others say.

Hi. I am really interested in being a FMM major. I have an average of a 3.9 GPA, and I will be taking AP courses next year. I am also taking some art classes at a local art center just for fun. Do you think I have enough to get into FIT?

I would think so.

Teenlet- I will let you know if my daughter gets into FMM… She has a 3.9 unweighted… 10 AP classes when she graduates… 1920 in SAT’s. But we are still worried and on pins and needles! You never know what could happen!

Hi. I was wondering, can you become a designer with an AAS FMM degree and a BS AMC degree? I’m wondering, because I got in For FMM but I really want to switch into their fashion design program. Is it just possible to switch into the program without giving up the seat for FMM(caus i want to stay in FMM “if” i don’t get in)

@Fashionstar1 I believe FMM is more about the business side of fashion as well as AMC and I heard it was hard to switch majors once you’re accepted especially for Fashion Design because you will have to submit the portfolio which consists of drawing and sewing garments. I would suggest either going to FIT’s Facebook forum or calling the admissions office so you can get a detailed answer.

I NEED ADVICE IM SO NERVOUS!!!

I am applying for Communication Design and i took many art classes in high school and some in college as well. I always got 90s in every art class from high school to now. its my second year of college and im looking to transfer to FIT fall of 2014. last semesters GPA was a 3.25 but it only brought my overall GPA up to either a 2.7 or 2.8. I made a portfolio that I thought was very good i worked veeeeryy hard on that, I even took it to the portfolio critique but they didnt give me as much feedback as i hoped. today i called FIT and they told me they were still reviewing my application, although myfit says they reviewed in Jan 31. Please someone help me and give me your thought on this. I prey every single night that I get accepted. it means the world to me. Id really appreciate some opinions. Thank you in advance!

So I was wondering since im enrolled at FIT and the said MA 222 was a requirement, is it possible not to take that and take Calc 2 instead (caus i already took calc in highschool).

@Graphicsgirl190‌ Have you heard back yet? I do hope it was a letter of acceptance!! :)

@Fashionstar1‌ it’s best to speak with the department directly for that or an academic advisor as they can tell you the classes for which you will receive credit.

@thercbray yesss i got put on the waiting list! im happy it wasnt a rejection letter that means i at least still have a chance so im okay with that. i just wish i knew what they were looking for!

@Graphicsgirl190‌ i’d write a letter explaining how much the school means to you, update them on any new developments, recent grades, maybe even a recommendation or examples of your work. Have you added yourself to the list?

@thercbray Yeah i think i will. I have put myself on the list already but i might still call just to make sure all is good and ask if there is anything else they would like to see. Someone told me that there wasnt anything extra we could do

@Graphicsgirl190‌ I’m not familiar with waitlisting, so take everything I said with a grain of salt.

SOOOO any FMM majors out there that can help me with this question. I’m a rising senior, and planning to apply this fall. I was wondering whoever got accepted, what were your GPA(weighted and unweighted)/SAT/ACT’s and also did you have extracurriculars and Sat subject test grades + did you take an AP Art class and have a portfolio? I’m debating on whether or not to drop my AP studio art class since I’m not planning to go to the design and art field at FIT. Email is poochie1024@gmail.com if you want to email me! Thank you so much!

I wanted to ask if you knew around what time should you be hearing back from FIT if you are applying for spiring semester? The priority consideration cut off date is October 1st, and I’ve submitted all of my application/portfolio requirements. I am applying to be a Fashion Design major!

@phenriquez19‌ December 1st

Hi! I was wondering if you could tell me anything more about the Film Major and Advertising and Marketing Communications majors? If its possible to have a dual major? And I was also wondering how the campus was like. What is around to do?
