hi i really want to go to usc im not sure if i have a good chance of getting in
ill have about a 3.8 gpa at the end of my junior year with all ap and honors classes. i have about 270 hours of community service, i have a few leadership positions in random clubs. im alumni because one of my parents went there.
any ideas so i dont worry to much?
thanks!

I think you have a very good chance :) What are your SAT scores?

well the first time i took my sats i got around a 1900 (not so good) so im retaking the sat june third im also taking my sat2s for bio and us the same day. through a friend i might be able to score a letter of recomendation from the dean of marshalls. but im just worried because i got a D second sememster of Ap chem and a D first semester of ap bio, ironiclly i currently have an A in ap bio now haha but im retaking both classes during the summer. would that have any impact on my chances in getting in?

Hmmm. Well, the A this semester is definitely good, but I'm not sure about USC's policies on grades from classes you retake etc. You'll have to research that, as well as find out what your school is going to put on its transcript. I believe most schools keep the failed grade on the transcript but have a little thing under it saying that you retook it and got a ____, but every school can be different.

Yeah, definitely retake your SAT's and try to aim for 2100 (though that is not a guarantee of admission, but still much better than sub-2000)

Do your teachers by any chance have that "if you get a 4/5 on the AP test I'll change your grades to an B/A" thing? Several AP teachers have that, and if that works out, they might change your first semester grades to a passing grade.

i havent talked to most of my teachers yet. my chem grade was softmore year and i did badly on the ap test. but my teachers a nice guy so i was going to see if he would changed my grade if i did well in summer school. Im not sure if my teachers this year would consider doing something like that (especially unfriendly bio teacher) but regardless of the D's (which are considered passing grades) i should still finish junior year with about a 3.8-3.9. 3.7 at the lowest. im just really worried, i dont know if i stand a good chance

i just called the usc admissions and spoke to a guy and asked if i got a D in a class but i retook it at a community college how would they look at my application and he told me basically they would average the grades. so If i got a D and then re took it and got an A it would be like me getting a B and it would make my gpa higher

I got in with a 1930 on the SAT I, although I'm a very active guy (sports, extra-currics, etc...) I have done nothing close to you. Retaking the SAT's would be a good idea, especially if you know you can do better. Overall though I would say you have a perfectly good chance of getting in.

^ Congrats to you :)

Many of the students who got into USC this year had 2000+ SAT scores...I believe the average this year was between 2000-2200 or something like that.

poptart, you have a very good chance of getting in because you are a legacy child with pretty good stats. (It's nothing offensive, don't worry. I know that I probably got my trustee scholarship this year because my mom was a Trojan. :p) Your legacy is definitely a plus factor.

Aim for that A in your summer bio class, and good luck! I hope to see you at USC in the near future.

Mind you, I think you could get in USC without the legacy. It just gives a helpful boost though :)

haha thank you for all the help :)
