So I'm thinking signing UCSD's TAG so that I'll be able to transfer in the Winter. The problem is I'll have to squeeze in a large amount of credits in the summer. Then again for TAG you only need a 2.8 so even if I do poorly then I can still transfer. BUT there lies another problem since I'll be jeopardizing my GPA just so I can transfer early. I was thinking about waiting a year and applying for UCLA but I've changed my priorities. What do you guys think? Would you rather wait a year and possibly get into UCLA or transfer after summer to UCSD?

in my opinion i would go to SD. SD is a great school and not far behind LA. And what if you dont get in to LA next winter. Thats going to suck to stay for another year. but thats just my 2cents.

That's what I'm afraid of. What if I don't get accepted and, like you said, I end up wasting a year! I think I should go through with this. I'm going to be taking 18 credits in the summer. My GPA is definitely going to drop down to 3.5 after this summer. Call me crazy but that's how anxious I am to get out of JC. Do you think they'll let me complete required units after summer just to make it a little easier on me?

5 units - Jap 2
4 units - Bio1/1L
4 units - Bio ?
3 units - Art ?
2 units - PE ?

wow u can actually take 18 credits in the summer?! WHY?! ur going to kill yourself. SD is a beautiful school, hard to pass up but its up to you. GL on ur decision.

I completely disagree. Starting school in the Winter you will be missing out on so much......think of the total college experience that you've been looking forward to only to be rushed right through and cut short just because you're only a "Winter" undergrad......
Housing will be a nightmare if you do......

Huh? 18 semester units? My school only allows 8 units max because it's considered full time for summer. Wowza...

For young people it's important......for me, not so much. Frankly, she sounded young and I think in the long run she would regret not waiting......

Don't be so impatient, getting in is half the battle.....Consider that most of my friends had TAP and great GPA and didn't get into UCLA and ohther schools......for reasons I'm not to clear on....

how did u sign a TAG for winter?
i thought uc's did not accept winter applications ,
also the winter TAA's needed to be filed in january

???

For UCSD's TAG you apply in July and have to complete your 60 units by the end of summer. Actually, I find transferring in the winter quarter odd since I will be jumping in the middle of the year. Yea, at IVC I think there is a limit but you have to...pertition I guess to take more units. 18 units in the summer sounds rough when you think about it. The most units I've taken in the summer was 12 while concurrently holding a part-time job. Anyone else taken more than 12 units in the summer? I'd like to hear your experience.

BTW, I'm a guy. My name is NOT "Nikki" lololol

18 units in 6-8 weeks, jeez. I am hoping those are quarter units, but i am guessing they are semester.

As far, as this dilema, i feel for u. I've been at my CC for about a year and i want to get the hell out.

I am not as fortunate as u w/ the TAG, b/c my CC would require langauge(10 units) , and two more extra classes. I just can't do it b/c i am science major and need to take ochem, physics, bio, etc.

THerefore i am contemplating doing a transfer in the winter for SB. prob is i would have to take Ochem in the summer w/ a horrible teacher.

hahahah ..i feel you man...i'm a biochem major and i'm taking 21 units this semester...4 science classes (o-chem 2, physics 3 and 4, molecular bio) and one calculus 3 class...i would be lucky to have 6 hours of sleep each nite...and my weekend is full of reading and doing hw..fun fun...i'm glad i'll be done in a month

"Please check in June to see if UCSB will accept applications for admission for winter quarter, 2006"

there was a link on this forum a week ago, stating all uc's were closed for enrollment in the winter, only in the fall due to budget cuts

The "Total college experience" (which is ambigous) that your probably referring to is already long gone when you go to community college.

WOW well said! i couldnt agree more

a cc summer session is just like a quarter in the uc system. from what i understand, 20 units is the max in the uc system. just think of the summer session as most uc sessions (think berkeley and merced are semsters). if you can do 18 units in the summer...great. might even look good on an application (who knows though?).

btw, didn't answer you in the other thread...but i'm in l.a. city. i used to work in santa monica so i sorta know the area. i'm a nikkei (japanese decendent for those wondering) also. nisei/sansei :)

nikkei, I am doing the same thing as your for UCI (PAIF) but why do you have to have those 18 done during the summer? As I was told, you should be able to take them during the fall, then transfer winter as planned.

unggio, I believe that was for last years winter applicants, that did not have admission contracts like TAG, TAA, PAIF. I talked to an admissions counselor at UCI last week and they said they were only accepting applicants with a PAIF contract. But officially, decisions to accept for winter will be posted in June.

where do u gt a PAIF? i go to de anza and west valley in the bay area, is it available here?
PAIF =? TAA

KristiC, they will accept you in the winter even though you are attending classes in the Fall? I haven't asked anyone yet but from what the TAG agreement says I have to finish my credits by summer if I want to make it into winter session. I will ask a counselor about this.

unggio, a PAIF is (prelimary acceptance into the field to UCI) No other UC has it. I do not know all the specifics. I think it is offered for all schools, but I go to Orange Coast, in Costa Mesa, Orange County.

nikkei, I do not know about the TAG aggreement, but I only need 5 more units to make 60 units, and the UCI lady said I could take those in the fall. It makes sense cuz the fall admits apply in nov., but their classes taken in the spring count towards their admittance. But if the TAG agreement says something different listen to it, not me. I am only doing PAIF for UCI.

KristiC, you can attend UCI in the winter using PAIF? I did not know this but then again I haven't looked much into UCI.
