Which colleges do you think would be a good choice for a kid very accelerated in math/science, but also talented in piano. Double major somewhere? Dual degree? He's very well rounded, very social and outgoing, has acting skills, science fiction writer- just has these equal skills in math-sci and music. Is it difficult to hone music skills while pursuing a lab science? He/we don't want to just do the conservatory route alone because of the realities of the economy and difficulties of making a living, but we all can't see him giving up music studies. How hard is it to get accepted for dual degrees, getting acceptances from two programs?

bookcases,

My daughter will be attending Emory University, and one reason is that when we visited last year, we got a clear signal that double-majors would work and multi-disciplinary programs were not unusual. She will have a double-major in the sciences and in music (also piano), while being on a pre-med track. She has achieved some distinction in piano, e.g., state-level recognitions and finalist/winner for competitions over the years. She wasn't ready to give up piano altogether, and she wasn't really interested in going the conservatory route because it's a strong interest, not a singular passion.

I don't think this is entirely unusual to do this type of double-major, and I'm sure there are many schools that will provide this opportunity. Good luck!
