Opinions on bringing expensive things into dorms

I'm a big music person, I love music. But I'm not sure whether I should bring my turntable and records and cd's etc to my dorms, b/c I wouldn't want anything to happen to any of my equipment and wat not. Would you say the dorms are relatively safe, or am I better off just bringing only the essentials to college?

My student host told me that while on-campus security is pretty good and the dorms are pretty safe, there are always temptations for thieves to follow someone entering the building, look through the unlocked rooms and take the expensive stuff. It depends on how vigilant you are, of course, about locking your room and keeping your valuable posessions as much out of sight as possible or else keeping them locked up. Generally on bigger campuses you just have to be a lot more aware of your stuff and not accidentally leave things unattended without someone else watching over them. I don't think that the CDs would be a problem but the other stuff might take up a lot of space among other considerations.

Depends who your roommate is and where youre living... Overall, it should be fine as long as you dont have a clepto roommate...

Yeah, it all depends on your roommate. Dorm security is pretty good, although not perfect. In my dorm, many people have their guitars and amps, so I'm sure your dj stuff would be almost good.
