I am looking at on-campus housing and was wondering if anyone has any pros/cons about the dorms. I know I'm selecting wildwood as a choice but also need some back-up choices :) any opinions on any dorms would be beneficial!

Thanks!

wildwood, broward, gilchrist, and reynolds seem the nicest…

Dorms are a good experience for a Freshman. Just don’t end up in the old dorms(Smith/Sally).

Wildwood is nice location if you like the gym. It’s RIGHT next to it which is a big plus. Downside could be the construction which might be noisy. Also the band practices right next to it in the Fall around 4-7.

You got the centrally located dorms like Landis, Gilchrist, Broward…all are next to Strozier and Suwannee.

Degraff is really nice if you have a car and like to park in front of your dorm. All the others you’d have to park in a garage which is a nice little walk.

what about any of the community style dorms (apparently more social for freshman)? I’ve just heard to say away from smith and kellum

The best residence hall in my opinion is Cawthon Hall. It’s right on Landis Green, three steps away from Strozier, a three minute walk from the Suwannee Room (campus cafeteria), is the most centrally located of the east side halls, and has more character than the newer Wildwood and Degraff halls. If FSU Housing had a Monopoly game, Cawthon would be Board Walk. The only negative is that it’s renovated, therefore it requires its residents to buy a mealplan.

You won’t go wrong with any place you end up though. Most people that tell you to avoid Kellum and Smith never lived there. It’s more social, you meet more people, offers more of the college experience, etc etc etc… You’ve heard it all already most likely. I believe I heard somewhere that Smith has one of the highest return rates for residents at FSU. It’s not 5 star living conditions, but it’s not all bad either.

People only return to Smith b/c of the low prices they offer. They are considerably cheaper than suit style

a friend of my son’s moved into Smith recently and actually likes it. It’s a more open, friendly atmosphere than the renovated dorms. My son lives in Broward and nobody even says hi to each other when they pass in the corridors. It’s actually kind of weird.
