Opinions-What are my chances at Rice or UT-Austin??

Hi,

My parents will be moving to texas next year and I was wondering about my chances of getting into rice or UT-austin as a tranfer student. CUrrently, I am starting my third semester at Florida State University and my intended major is biochemistry/computer science. My GPA after 1 year is 3.9 and HS SAT score is 1320/1600. My HS GPA was 93.5 ( we did not go by the GPA system). SO, with a good essay, can anyone comment whether I have good chances at those universities. I will apply for the spring 2008 term.

Any advice? ALso, does anyone recommend applying to any other universities?

Thank you.

rice is a reach but UT-A looks like a good bet

reach even with a 3.9 GPA?
Or is the SAT that is too low?
- Btw, can we take the SAT once in college?

Thank you once again...

bump

man.. i think if you wrote a good essay... then you have pretty good chance at rice too... at least that's what i think.. cuz my stats are worse than yours.. sats and gpa... but im hoping to get in ^^ anyway.. good luck!

You have a GREAT chance at UT-Austin. I know people that got in with a 3.4. But then again I live in Texas and UT-Austin favors Texans. You should have no problem getting in though. Rice is a private school though so location doesn't play as big of a role but you still have a good chance there with a good essay.

Thank you very much for your feedback.
Yeah, I was actually expecting everyone to say my chances at rice were better since it is private and accepts more people out of state.
goodmarc, did you transfer from a university in texas? And could you please post your status?
- One last thing, Does anyone know if it is possible to take the SAT if you are already in college? I have been wondering about this for a long time.

it is possible but since you are going to be transferring as a junior, it is pointless. the test is meant to show how you will do in college and is only meant to be taken in high school. your high school record matters less and less the more you progress throughout college.
