Opinion- Chances of getting in as a transfer student.

Hi,

My parents will be moving to texas next year and I was wondering about my chances of getting into rice or UT-austin as a tranfer student. CUrrently, I am starting my third semester at Florida State University and my intended major is biochemistry/computer science. My GPA after 1 year is 3.9 and HS SAT score is 1320/1600. My HS GPA was 93.5 ( we did not go by the GPA system). SO, with a good essay, can anyone comment whether I have good chances at those universities. I will apply for the spring 2008 term.

Any advice? ALso, does anyone recommend applying to any other universities?

Thank you.

I have no experience with transferring, but you have a high chance at getting into UT-austin and Rice would likely be a reach. You would need to prove that Rice has something that your current institution does not. I'd say maybe 90% chance for UT, 30% chance for Rice.

thank you mjoe

I disagree. You might have a good shot. You have a great GPA (though I don't know what your high school one means at all) going for you. That's a big factor in transferring, I think. I would take the SAT again if i were you (Rice does accept people with 1320s, but you need whatever edge you can get). Also, get involved around your school and do cool things to set you apart from other applicants. Look at the transfer application to get ideas for things you need to improve.

Also, write a great essay with plenty of "voice" and personality.... :)

you do have a point.. the Rice admissoin rate for transfers is around 25%, so i'm saying mark has a slightly better than average chance. However, i think that he'd definitely need to retake the SAT and have major EC's in hs or college.

Can I retake the SAT once in college?
and will the admission committee know that I took it later?
-Like, will the date that I took the test be shown in the report?
- Thank you for the comments!

I meant my high school average was 93.6/100 , for we did not go by the GPA system in my state.
- Also, I only took 2 APs.
I worked as hard as possible in college in order to compensate for these low status. i would definetely retake the SAT if possible.
- lastly, I am certain that I can do a great job with my essays, At this point, I think my main concern is raising that SAT math score/
macksimum, do you know the SAT range for rice?

Sorry for the confusion guys, I actually meant to say that I am currently in my third semest at FSU and wil be applying as a transfer to rice for the spring 2007 term, not 2008.

Here's a class statistics breakdown:

Yes, the date that you take the SAT will be shown. However, you should not be penalized for taking it in college; if anything, it'll show the most recent testing data. (sorry for being so blunt/obvious). That should help.
