I want to major in Computer Game Science. I had poor judgement and ruined my junior year of highschool. I had A's and B's during my freshman and sophomore years, but junior year I landed one or two C's in AP classes, and even a D during second semester for AP Calc. This lowered my GPA dramatically and I currently have a GPA of 3.11. What are my chances if I had an ACT score of 28( I have not taken the ACT/SAT yet), and what would I need to get on the ACT if a 28 is not good enough? I have done no community service, and I have only joined a few clubs throughout highschool. I am planning on joining more clubs in my final year, as well as doing some community service before apps are due. I also joined track during my soph year and won awards for rookie of the year and jumps mvp. Does this help? Also, I am retaking AP Calc to bump up the grades I got during junior year, will this help as well? Thanks.

I would say try it out. As a student from the Comp Science school (rising sophomore, BIM Major here), you’re chances are pretty low. Are there valid reasons for why you “ruined” your junior year? I say still apply, write a good essay to explain whatever you want to explain, try to get outstanding (maybe even perfect) ACT/SAT scores, and sit tight (and don’t screw up senior year just because it’s senior year). School acceptances are getting tougher every year, especially for UCI. While in many cases it’s still an underrated school, UCI’s ratings are rising rapidly, including #1 school in the nation under 50 years old + some ranking internationally. With that said, it will be tough. If anything, appeal and hope for the best!

Thanks! I had some personal problems, a game addiction, girlfriend problems, and I tried to ignore the fact that I wouldn’t be a kid anymore. I plan to do my best this year and study my butt off for ACT/SAT. I spent a lot of time thinking what I wanted my major to be and what I wanted to do with my life, so I really hope it’s not too late.

@sonofablog definitely still apply and appeal if you don’t get in. Just try your best this year and work with your counselor. But always have a realistic fall-back plan. CC is also a good choice, with rising UC costs you can do amazing in CC and still go to the UC of your dreams with no one even knowing you went to a CC. something to keep in mind that people forget about a lot!

Yeah I will! I’m preparing for the ACT, working hard on my grades, doing community service and being more active in clubs. Hopefully it’ll count for something since I waited until senior year to actually care about clubs. I did consider CC, my sister is currently doing a transfer program and wishes to go to UCI. Then again I don’t want to spend a few years doing that if I have a chance of going straight there. I’m just trying not to keep my hopes too high, since it is my fault for screwing up my junior year. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post! =)
