Here are the current decisions from the colleges that I applied to. If you were offered these options, which one would you choose?

Major: Computer Engineering/Computer Science
State: Texas

Arizona State University Tempe
Computer Systems Engineering (BSE) - Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering

Penn State University Park
The College of Engineering Penn State Erie
Please remember that after completing two years at Penn State Erie, you can transition to another campus where you will finish your degree.

Purdue University West Lafayette
College: Undergraduate Studies Program
Major: Explorers
Area of Interest: Computer Engineering

Texas A&M University College Station
General Studies

University of Colorado Boulder
College of Engineering & Applied Science Undergraduate
Electrical & Computer Engineering

University of Minnesota Twin Cities
College of Liberal Arts

University of Texas Austin
Coordinated Admission Program (CAP)
CAP gives you the opportunity to spend your freshmen year at a UT System university and transfer to UT Austin if you meet certain requirements during that year.
UT System universities: UT Arlington & UT San Antonio
Im going to try to appeal their decision.

Virginia Tech
None

UT CAP or Texas A&M.

Are any of this in-state? What is your scholarship situation like?

I am sorry, but maybe I missed it.

What are the decisions of each of these Universities?

Have you been admitted to all of them?

Thanks for the responses.

University of Texas - Austin & Texas A&M University - College Station are both in-state. Since I just recently received most of these decisions, the only scholarship is $8000 yearly from Arizona State University - Tempe, but the cost of tuition will not affect my decision.

The decisions of each university is bulleted. As of right now, I have been offered admissions to all of them in some sort either by transferring after a year or two or a different major.

Texas (Austin), Purdue, Colorado, and Minnesota appear to be the best regarded schools for CS in your list. However, the other four aren’t bad.

Of these four, you may want to try to find out the answers to the following questions:

For Texas (Austin) CAP, do you have to apply to transfer, or is it automatic after taking certain courses and getting some minimum GPA at Texas (Arlington or San Antonio)?

For the other three, can you just declare the Computer Science or Computer Engineering major after fulfilling the prerequisites, or do you have to apply to declare the major, not knowing beforehand whether you will be accepted?

If you are unable to get into the Computer Science or Computer Engineering major at a desired school, a minor or some selected courses in Computer Science may be helpful if your intention is to move into an industry software development job and career.

“CAP students are guaranteed admission to UT Austin for their sophomore year if they earn 30 hours of transferable coursework and achieve at least a 3.2 GPA. All 30 hours must be earned during the regular fall or spring semesters. Credit for courses taken during short semesters or “mini-mesters” cannot be used to fulfill the 30-hour requirement. Returning CAP students are guaranteed admission into the School of Undergraduate Studies (UGS), the College of Liberal Arts or the College of Natural Sciences when they enroll at UT Austin following their CAP year. Students may request (but are not guaranteed) admission to other colleges without jeopardizing their admission to the university and UGS, Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences. UT Austin maintains an online list of approved courses for CAP students. If you successfully fulfill your CAP requirements, the courses that you select from the list will transfer to UT Austin.” Computer Science is in Natural Sciences. If I accept the CAP offer, I will attend either Arlington or San Antonio.

I have to apply to declare the major.

If you do CAP and successfully transfer to Texas (Austin), would you then have to apply to declare the Computer Science major (as you say you would in the other schools), or would you be able to just declare it after fulfilling the prerequisite courses and GPA?

Another question is, can you do CAP to Texas (Austin) from a less expensive local community college?

No you can’t do cap from a community college. Though UT is very keen on taking transfers from Austin Community College (I was accepted out of there along with 270 others last year).

University of Texas and Texas A&M, being in-state, are far and away your best options. It is NOT worth going out of state and accumulating substantial debt to get the same level of education. I’d choose UT but that’s my personal preference.
