Don’t know a thing about Oregon Tech, but SDSM&T’s academic resources, research power ($$$), career placement, livability and reputation are tremendous.

Oregon Tech is not exactly located close to any major cities but you can get around using Amtrak to and from larger cities. The school has Oregon’s highest ROI for all of our college’s and a great reputation as a STEM school. K. Falls is very small. While Oregon students often want Oregon State for STEM or to go out of state, OIT is a great school especially for engineering, radiology tech, and cyber.

I’m curious to see what others post on SDSM&T.

What major? That would help people better answer you.

SDSM&T is a very good school! I have communicated with some of the professors there and they are all extremely nice and helpful. I will say the that the school of mines does have a higher ACT score range than Oregon Tech. Enrollment at the school of mines is less, and it costs more to attend. SDSM&T is also located in Rapid City which has a lot to do being near the “touristy” Black Hills. There is an abundance of hiking, skiing, shopping, dining, and recreational activities in the area) Rapid is a larger city in South Dakota, and for the most part is a safe town. (It does have a higher crime rate) I would think that this is dependent on your major heavily which school you choose. If your major is strictly engineering or science, SDSM&T is the way to go 100%; if you maybe aren’t sure that those are going to be your major, I would consider Oregon as they still have a broader range of academic programs. Again, if you are going to school for science/engineering, mines will be a much better school. @LakeWashington does a good job summarizing it briefly!
