Orgo 1: what's an A?

Hi, has anyone here taken orgo 1 with Nolta? If so, what’s an A? I know that 80+% is in the A range and that it likely fluctuates semester to semester, but roughly what is an A? I know an 80% is an A-.

When I took it, an A was a 84%.

When I took it (Fall 2015), it was an 84% as well.

It changes section to section too.

Thanks to everyone who answered. Yeah, I know there are a lot of factors that go into grade cutoffs, but I appreciate the help.

A tip is to find and register for a section with a bad TA, and actually attend the section with a good TA. That way you will get the benefit of good teaching and a more favorable curve. My son did that when he took Orgo in Winter 16.

But don’t all the orgo students take the same exam and get the same curve?

@Eeeee127 Yes

They take the same exam but sections can be curved differently, at least that was the case in Winter 17 semester. That might have been for the lab though.

A in Orgo = selling your soul to Satan. LOL. Not exactly, but you’ll understand while you’re taking it.

Yeah the professor said Spring always does better because it’s like an immersion of OChem. Assuming the final goes like the midterms, I’ll be in the A range, but I’m obviously hoping for an A and not an A-

So will it be harder to get an a if i take Orgo first semester?

@Eeeee127 I think if you put in the work it’ll be fine.
