My son is planning his freshman orientation date and I was wondering if there is an advantage to attending one of the earlier sessions. Do certain freshman courses fill up with students from early orientation dates or does the University limit how many students in each orientation can sign up for popular classes?

Overall you will have more options if you go early. They do not set aside spaces (at least not in past) but they do sometimes open sections or add seats later in summer as they see a need. The downside to that is that you are still messing with schedule right up to classes starting. The other advantage of going early is to get sections you want…I’m sure they have plenty of seats in true freshmen classes (engl 101/102, univ 101, etc) but may not be at times you want. Best advice, come as early as possible! But if you can’t, do the best you can with schedule and then keep checking back. After you register, you can change classes as new spots come open.

Get to orientation as soon as possible! The classes do start to fill up quickly, and people with later dates will be stuck with bad professors and early class times.
