stvemptynest, I cannot find how to register. Would you please be a dear and give me directions? Thanks so much.

go to [New Student Orientation: Orientation and Transition: Office of First Year Experience Programs: Indiana University Bloomington](http://fye.indiana.edu/orientation/new-student/index.cfm)

Click on FY(Me) at top right corner (brown box)

enter student info and register

Just going to pop in real quick and say that almost all of the dorms will have tours set up for orientation. You just have to go the dorm you wan to tour and they’ll have students there to show you around. You won’t get exact room assignments until later in the summer but it’s nice to see different buildings and get other student’s opinions on things.

mrlinkcc…will we find out what dorm we will be living in at orientation?

Thank you, yankees3311. We followed your directions and were able to register. It is all approaching so fast. I know my son is ready, but not sure if I am :-).

yankees, to be honest I don’t know. Some years you know your room number, some years you know your building, some years you don’t know anything. The later the orientation, the more likely you are to know something about your dorm. It’s just nice to get a since of what your possible dorm could look like.

Yankees–generally no, unless you go to a later orientation. I think I got my building in July and my actual room number in August

Do most students/parents stay in a hotel versus in dorms for New Student Orientation?

Should parents plan on attending or can the students be dropped off/picked up at the conclusion?

Coolshop I am going to stay in the dorm and my mom is going to stay in the hotel on campus and go to the parent activity. I dont think parents have to go but my mom has not seen the campus yet and wants to check it out.

Can anyone tell me the dates for the orientations? I’m confirming soon, but I’m just curious to know…
and is there additional charge apart from the initial orientation fee for staying in the dorms for the duration of the orientation?

There is an additional charge to spend the night in the dorm. I’m sorry I don’t recall the cost (maybe $25???) but it included breakfast. Lots of students stay in the dorms with parents in hotels.

Parents are not required to attend. As a parent that has attended twice (just to be fair to child 2), I can say you’ll learn a few things. One of my nieces will be a freshman in the fall and my sister just asked me about this. Even for a local, that attended IU years ago, there was some value in doing so. The charge included dinner. So much information is coming at you over a long period of time that it’s nice to have it all compressed into a day. You’ll also have lots of chances to ask questions.

For the last few years students have been notified in June of their dorm assignment. Specific room assignments and roommate information comes out in late July. I seem to recall there was some mistake last year and DS found out his room assignment early. I wish I could recall the “trick” for all of you. The mistake was fixed rapidly though so it probably would not work this year.

Yankees, I just checked it is about $145 per night at Biddle Hotel. could you please ask your Mum how she got $97 ? thank you.

She went online and there was rooms with a double bed with a AAA discount. Think initial amount was $105/night and with discount it went down. She got the same cost for when I move in in August.

Thank you, Yankees. I have another question. Is it possible to change the major to business from other majors ?
