Orientation

Son received the orientation brochure today in the mail. It runs from 6/12th to 7/19th. He was able to sign up for the 6/13th & 14th session.

Anyone else sign up yet?

Just a note--earlier is better. The earlier the session you attend, the earlier you are allowed to register, meaning the better choices of which classes you can get into.

Congratulations IllinoisMom2006, and best of luck to your son at IUB.

June 12th? Why is it so early? I thought everything starts in August?

Did the orientation brochure include course schedules and descriptions or is there someplace we can go fo up to date info on class times/teachers/descriptions? Inotherwords, what all comes in the orientation packet?

Wolfman, the orientation brochure only explains what will happen during your orientation session and how to sign up. It is a 2 day program with info sessions, placement testing, other optional testing in chemistry, biology and calculus, some social activities, a meeting with your advisor and, finally, registration.

I think you will be able to look at specific course info online before you get there.

It also discusses the IU Beginnings program and Welcome Week which starts with move in on 8/22nd.

Kahlen, most schools I know of have their freshman orientation programs in June and July.

As Calcruzer said, the earlier you attend orientation, the better chance you will have at getting the classes you want. Don't put off signing up for your orientation slot.

yeah, I have yet to get anything about Orientation. sent in enrollment deposit last week, anyone got any ideas of when I should get it?

The Fall 2007 schedule of classes can be seen here:

Yeah I signed up for the 28 and 29th of June. I couldn't go any earlier which kinda sucks for me. I really can't complain though I will be in Europe for almost 3 weeks.

You can sign up online pre-packet as long as you have paid the enrollment $ and have a IU ID#.

orientation.indiana.edu

When you log in, you're greeted with your name and your school or admission (Kelley, etc) It also tells you if you're in Hutton Honors or not.

With Kelley DA and Honors, the 1st available sign up was June 13-14.

Can someone tell me what the optional Calculus placement exam is for? Is it to place out of the Brief Intro to Calculus or is it to get into a higher level Calc Class?

I just sent my enrollment about 3 days ago. Is it possible I will be able to sign up for the earliest session?

That is probably unlikely, they say it takes up to 10 business days to process the deposit. However, I sent mine in about 5 days ago and was able to sign up this morning, even though I haven't received a flyer in the mail. That said, I am a Huttons/ Kelley DA and the first session wasn't available to me. I choose the June 25-26 session b/c I am going to be out of town the better part of June. I would go to orientation.indiana.edu and try logging in, that will tel you whether or not they have received/processed your deposit and you can sign up for your given dates there.

---Side question, for those who know, will my dates, which are about two weeks into orientation, pose a problem for class availability?---

I have a friend that attended orientation in early july last year, and he said the class availability was fine.

My first available was the 14th..but my parents want to go with my friend and her parents and her earliest was the 20th. I'm not happy. Am I screwed class selection wise? :(
