I dont graduate from HS until the end of June. How important is an early orientation date in terms of getting your classes? Thanks

Do orientation as soon as you can. The later your appointment, the more desireable class times will likely be gone. People who register near the end wind up with a lot of early morning and late afternoon classes.

Also, if you don’t get the times you want when you first register, you can keep checking the system to see if new sections of classes are added and switch to a better time slot. They often add additional sections as the original ones fill up. The added sections are usually early morning or late afternoon/evening sections, but it doesn’t hurt to keep checking in case they add mid-day sections that you need.

Thanks bthomp1…I just signed up for the earliest dates available

yankees, when did you get your orientation invite? I thought they were supposed to come out on March 15 but my daughter has been monitoring her IU email and OneStart and doesn’t see anything. She sent her admissions deposit in February.

I just went to [Office of First Year Experience Programs: Indiana University Bloomington](Office of First Year Experience Programs: Indiana University Bloomington) and signed up. Think info came in mail a couple of weeks ago

Wow, thanks! We did get the general info a few weeks ago, but it said you would receive an “invitation” to enroll in orientation, and the invitations would come out starting in mid-March to those who have already submitted their enrollment deposit. So we’ve been waiting for that invitation. DD just went to the FYE link and she is able to register now. Thanks for the tip! What would we do without CC?

Has anyone received info about IU Beginnings?

What was the date you guys signed up for? Just to gauge when the earliest dates were in case they’re already taken. I reserved for June 5-6.

I really don’t appreciate their system. They specifically said at Red Carpet Day that students would receive invitations based on the time they paid their enrollment deposit. However, on a survey you take on their FYE website right after you make your Orientation reservation, it asks for students to identify how they heard reservations were open. The options were: Received an Initiation, Received an Email, Discovered the system was open, and Discovered via social networking. For competitive kids who want specific schedules, this could be a disadvantage because they don’t realize it’s open. As someone who paid an early deposit, I haven’t received my invitation yet but luckily discovered on here I could register.

We signed up for June 6-7. Coste - I couldn’t agree with you more.

I find it interesting that so many people did not receive invitations. I did and all it said was the same info on the website. It did not give you a specific date or time. I will admit I was an “IU Orientation” website stalker. I just kept checking until it finally opened up on Thursday night.

Yankees what day did you Reece for or do you remember what the earliest possible date to reserve was?

Yeah, it’s weird. Pays off to he overly observant though!

June 5th and 6th were first orientation dates. The site opened up on Thursday night 3/14 California time so 3/15 east coast time

Is it possible to reserve an orientation date without having paid the enrollment deposit yet?

Ace…I dont think so

Yankees: Okay I didn’t think so. The reason I asked that was because I am still not 100% committed to IU yet, pending other acceptances/financial aid packages. I most likely will not be able to make a final decision until late April. Based on yours or everyone else’s experiences, would reserving an orientation date that late put me at a significant disadvantage in terms of course availability?

Ace–that would really depend on your major. For some courses (C117–Gen Chem 1, for example), 8 ams are the ONLY time offered regardless of when you register and there’s only one professor. But for courses like A100 (accounting), there are a variety of times and professors, and some are definitely better than others.

No matter what, keep checking throughout the summer as spots will open up in desired times, or additional classes will be opened to accommodate more students

Anyone know of hotels offering discounts during NSO? I know they are listed on a link in the Confirmation, just can’t get back in.

Thanks Yankees! Disregard my horrible grammar in my last post haha. Phone typing…ehh.

The Bloomington Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, and TownePlace Marriott are the three hotels offering discounts for orientation.

my mom made reservations at Biddle Hotel on campus and it was $94 or $97/night.

Great…thanks! Already made reservations at Biddle (only one night available) and Holiday Inn, will have to call and mention discount!
