<p>Does anyone know when Orientation Day for UCLA students is?</p>
<p>Im wondering because i have to plan everything cause my mom is asking me to go on vacation with her for a month and i don't want to miss anything out otherwise i'll be losing in my college experience.</p>

<p>There are I believe approximately a dozen orientation sessions offered throughout the summer, each one is three days long. You will definitely want to pick one of the first orientation sessions (late June or early July) so that you can sign up for classes earlier than the other freshmen.</p>

<p>That is correct. I believe there are 11 sessions. The first is usually right after July 4th (not in June) and they run into August. Each lasts 3 days, the last day parents have activities for them as well. You stay in dorms (not the ones you’ll be living in), attend many presentations, counseling sessions, go on fun tours and eat in the dining halls. You sign up for your classes on the 3rd day. My daughter really enjoyed Orientation and met someone there who was in her group that she is very close friends with now. Each group is only around 12 students so you get to know each other well. Orientation is a great way to get an intro to UCLA and make your transition there in Sept. very smooth. Sign ups usually begin around June 1 and while you can get good classes attending any session it is a good idea to sign up for one of the first 3-4 sessions. So if you need to schedule a vacation plan to go early July and plan a vacation after say, July 20 or so.</p>

Furthermore, within those three days, you’ll be actually living there in a dorm room with or without your parents? or do you just go to there daily if you can drive there? or what’s the deal with the housing during the three days in Orientation? <p>You live in a room with randomly assigned roommates, without your parents. It’s a good prep for the year, where you’ll have to live with strangers for more than 3 days. I don’t know if you can commute though… I think you have to pay either way, so it makes more sense to just stay there. It’s a fun experience, don’t miss it if you don’t have to.</p>
<p>Also, Move-In is in September (I think it started like… the 18th last year?), so your August vacation works out just fine.</p>

<p>Keep in mind that the 3rd day is for parents. We really enjoyed the parents day. We had a tour, got to see some dorms and had some very interesting presentations. Got to meet and talk with other parents too. We have family in the area so we had a free place to stay for the 3 nights. The students actually only stay in the dorms for 2 nights but it is definitely a great way to get a taste of college life and meet some potential new friends. As I said, my daughter met one of her best friends at orientation. You will get all the info about signing up on June 1 soon but I think another poster provided a link to the orientation site so most of your questions can be answered there.</p>

<p>Well accordingly, I believe the later you go in orientation the harder it is to get into class. If it is full, I BELIEVE they might put u on waiting list. or u’ll have to take it next quarter…which is like 10 weeks…</p>
<p>if you go to a later session, they basically tell you which classes you should sign up for which makes it easier; you don’t have to look through the schedule yourself.</p>
