Does anyone know what the dress code, or typical dress, is at the Freshman Assemblyand/or at the President's Reception that follows, on the Saturday morning of orientation? I am interested in what both the kids AND the parents wear. I thought I once heard suit and tie; is that right? Thanks!

There's a similar discussion in the Yale 2011 Facebook group, and I believe the conclusion was business casual - business formal. However, a solid conclusion is still yet to be made for us anxious ladies.

Unless times have changed wildly, the dress is blue blazer, tie, and khakis for the guys. For girls, a skirt (or pants or dress) that is nicer than what you'd wear to school, but not formal.

There will be significant variation based on regional and socio-economic differences.

LOL: for the guys, it doesn't HAVE to be only a Blue blazer and khakis -- jacket and tie w/slacks is fine. I recall some guys in open-toed sandals though (doggone radicals!!!!).. Just kidding.

It's a nice affair where you can mingle w/the College leadership and other parents. Why one would want to look shabbily would be beyond my thinking. Look nice but don't sweat it.

Thanks everyone - so it sounds like a tie for the male students and dads, but not necessary to have a full-blown suit. Thanks again!
