orientation for parents?

my D will be doing the student 2-day orientation. on the uga website there is a portion showing the parent orientation schedule. it looks like what we've already done with our D and w/ our son when he was considering uga. we'd definitely want to be accessible to her when she's getting setting up whatever it is that freshman take care of at orientation. it just looks redundant for the parents to attend the parent portion. thoughts, please?

Lots of info, I would suggest you attend especially day 1. Day 2 the students are setting up schedule, meeting adviser and getting their student ID. Seemed to me most parents attended. It was exhausting though fun!

^^^thank you, gibson!! will do! :)

Agreeing with Gibson1514…again :-)

Day 1 was information overload for parents and kids but worth it for me especially since this was my first one off to college.

hey gibson and gamomof3,
can you please tell me if/where you stayed overnight? we only live an hour away, but it would probably be better to stay overnight and i don’t know the area. we did the same for our son during his auburn orientation. thanks!

I stayed at Candlewood Suites for Orientation. It was a little further out about a 10-15 min drive to get to campus. I had reward points to use.

I have also stayed at Hampton Inn on Broad street. It was closer. Both places were good.

I stayed with a friend at the Georgia Center- not worth the money, but really convenient.
My fav place to stay is the Indigo Hotel

I have heard it is sometimes available on priceline, though I haven’t ever tried.

To be honest, I skipped the Variety type show by the Orientation Leaders in the evening of Day 1. Went for really nice dinner at five and ten instead. I needed to decompress a little. Fantastic treat!

I agree with Gibson - give yourself a break and don’t go back for the show on the first night. It was cute but wasn’t necessary. It seemed that less than 1/2 the parents attended that particular part.

If you’re not familiar with UGA and Athens the Georgia Center is a great choice. Very convenient and the student/employees bend over backwards to be helpful.

The UGA Parents’ rate at the Foundry Park Inn for May-June is $94, Sun-Thu nights.
