We recently attended the Preview event for new students. During this, we learned that parents can also attend orientation. Apparently, there are programs during orientation geared toward parents. Does anyone have any additional insight regarding this? Is it worthwhile? Do parents also stay on-campus or do they get a hotel? I can’t find any other details without finalizing his date.
I don’t see how parents would stay on campus. I’d get a hotel. If our son picks FSU we’re definitely going with him to orientation.
Yeah…I realize my comment about where would parents stay was probably a dumb one. Regardless, I wish there was more information available about parental activities during those two days. I did find the following on FSU’s website:
I went to orientation two years ago. i thought it was very valuable. once the kids go, unless you live close to Tally, you really dont get to school much. At orientation, reps from pretty much every dept did parent presentations, so i learned a ton. If my daugher complains about something, i know about the resources and can now refer her where to go to get help. Also, it is comforting to see how well run the school is, and even to have a physical familiarity with her new “home”. So i would def recommend it, unless maybe if you are an FSU alum who already knows the place in and out, maybe then it would be repeitive. Also, you get a tote bag of handouts to refer to once you get home.
