To students who have gone through orientation before: Which events were your favorites? Which events should not be missed? If you could do orientation over again what would you do differently? Any advice to help a freshman make the most of orientation?

you should not miss required events...

and if you want to be involved in clubs/organizations (some have a cap in enrollment or deadlines to enroll) then go to CLUBFEST

a lot of people refer to orientation week as DISorientation week. it is honestly one of the most fun weeks you'll ever have at cornell (even during your years as an upperclassman). besides for your required school events and your OL meetings just go to anything that interests you during the day. the book reading isn't required like they claim but there's really no harm in attending. the big red blowout was a fun event. most of the night events put on by OSC are fun and you can chill there for an hour or two. at around 11pm or so a lot of freshmen make the trek to collegetown for parties. most of the fraternities will be having open parties at their annexes in collegetown and freshmen can just walk in and drink. it's good to go out with a bunch of ppl (floor mates + OL group ppl) and just have a fun time. if there's nothing going on during the day you can check out the gorges for swimming or go buy your textbooks.

Clubfest is really overwhelming, but it's nice to get put on some mailing lists for clubs you're interested in. I'd recommend going to that. I'd also recommend going to Casino Night, it was really a blast last year and my hallmates and I had a great time (and it was a great bonding experience!). And honestly, if your whole hall is going out, go with them, because odds are you'll end up being good friends with some of them and looking back on the awkward times in the beginning is loads of fun...

quick1865, u really don't even have to go to the book meeting stuff?

RAs take attendance at the small group book discussion. Even though no one is there to keep tabs on you at the big panel discussion, it's still worth attending. You have no idea what we went through with The Pickup last year.

for some reason my high school got free copies of the pickup (enough for every single person taking AP Lit) courtesy of cornell last year so all AP Lit kids had to read it for summer reading and do a response just like the Cornell freshman. then we listened to a seminar that Cornell professors and students did.

lincoln at gettysburg is turning out to be way worse than the pickup.

ithacops have been cracking down on noise violations during oweek the past couple of years, and smart frats know they have no incentive to throw parties knowing that the majority of frosh won't remember their greek letters 5 minutes later (acutally they have disincentives, being as the IFC and the university are being stricter than ever in the light of sigma hospital). there are far better weeks at cornell, not even including rush, than o-week. just meet people, and honestly don't go to events if you don't want to.
