Hi All, including Pierre....I know you are an engineering major Pierre, my son will be freshman engineering major, orientation 7/2, 7/3. Any teacher's in your opinion, to take or to stay away from for Fall freshman engineering schedule? I know not all will be available, just trying to avoid the duds, if he can.

Thanks....

He will be taking...
CES 102
CH 101
ENGL 103
MTHSC 106

ENGL 103 - all grad students so luck of the draw here

MTHSC 106 - Guest is really good, don’t really recognize any of the other teachers (avoid Parrott at all costs if he gets to teach a class this year)

CH 101 - highly recommend Pressprich, I had her and she was one of my favorite professors

CES 102 - Brandon is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, Stephan is great too (she runs the whole CES program). Stay away from William Park.

They’ve switched up a bunch of professors…I’m getting old but that’s what I know from the teacher assignments so far (they are at soc.clemson.edu). Registering at orientation is really luck of the draw (as is most registrations if you aren’t in honors) so you may not have a choice of what professor you take depending on when you register.

Thank you Pierre…he has registration today, so I will let you know. I am not getting the whole SIS-Tigerweb thing. I can’t find how to view open/closed classes prior to your registration time?

there’s no way to tell that before registration - plus they block off sections of each major class for each orientation session (so every orientation session gets a fair shot at each class)

We left orientation a little disappointed…during registration he was unable to find a gen ed that he needed, which was open. being that he has some AP’s, his Gen Ed list is kinda small, so he could not find one open class to fulfill a gen ed requirement, so he could only register for 4 classes, and now he has to wait until registration opens up again in July, and hope something opens up! he did take Presspich as you suggested, and all the others professors are to be announced. I don 't have a good feeling about it, and I hope it is not gonna be like this every time.

don’t worry - registration is always frustrating - I think that’s the case at many large schools. If you have a bunch of AP credits that can put you a semester ahead of your classmates, it’ll get a ton better in the future. There’s a very good chance you’ll eventually get into a class that you need, you just need to email the department registration coordinator and see if they can fit you in somehow. There may be some open spots that open up in mid-July, they just can’t let the first orientation session take all the spots in classes so they limit the available slots in each section. Usually they are very good about letting in people who absolutely need a class for their major

Upperclassmen professors have been announced but it usually takes a longer time for freshman classes (especially math and english) to announce theirs

I go to another large school in South Carolina (bigger than Clemson) but i won’t name it. I thought signing up for classes was really easy and organized. I came in having taken 11 AP classes, and my advisor let me take a couple sophomore classes because they were open. I’m a International Business/Finance major btw. And even after our Orientation, we were allowed to add or drop any class we wanted to, or change sections online. And there were plenty of open spots in all the gen eds left I need (which isn’t very much).

I’m also looking forward to my first trip to Clemson on 11/24/2012. Hopefully that game will be just like the last 3!

No, i’m not. I just had a normal advisor from the business school. The HC was very difficult to get in this year. I had a 3.9 unweighted and 4.5 weighted on a 5 point scale. Also field commander of 360 member high school marching band, president of multiple clubs, 100+ hours volunteering at a hospital, and was an exchange student in Germany.

And just to let yall know, I was accepted into UF too but chose SC over UF.
