Hope all of you new and returning students and their families have a good day moving despite the occasional morning drizzle. With luck the afternoon thunderstorm will miss Hyde Park.
It looks like it is going to rain ALL day on Sunday. What happens then to the bagpipe procession?
^ Guess we’ll find out tomorrow!
Bagpipes!!!
Glad that happened rain or shine
Some pictures from yesterday Convocation and the bagpipe procession:
So great to hear the updates on the going-ons during move-in week on all these threads. Hope all of your worries about their houses, classes, and everything else will be for naught and that everything will work out in the end. It’s so great that your children will be embarking on this journey in a world class institution, and you along with them (albeit very peripherally.)
We, parents of a sophomore, are getting some last minute tasks done before he leaves for Chicago this weekend. I miss him already, lol.
I second @uocparent! I am getting really excited to drop off DD later this week and see that beautiful UChicago campus (and heading to Notre Dame 1 1/2 hours away on Sat for a football game!) Unfortunately, it looks like another rainy weekend though
Not a fan of Maroon but this is an interesting article that all the new students (and their parents) should read:

Very good article, thank you for sharing it, bears. My son, remembering how they were last year during OWeek, said “I can’t believe we actually couldn’t wait for classes to start during OWeek.”
Hyde Park Jazz Festival will be held at Midway today. So the campus will be even more festive (and noisy)
How fun! I hope my DS is able to experience some of that!
@newmaroonmom It will be held at Midway. Students at I-House and BJ facing Midway probably should not plan on going to sleep early tonight
I’m in my son’s dorm room with the windows open enjoying the jazz festival. Nice! Still a bit drizzly today but fresh, cool temperatures have been welcome.
You guys are lucky. Last week during Move-In we had both drizzle AND sweltering heat/humidity.
Monday and Tuesday will hit mid 80’s before the cold front passes through on Wednesday. By Friday the low will be in the 40’s.
No wonder half of DD high school class are sick. Teenagers, especially boys, tend to just wear t-shirt and short whether it is 85 degree or 45 degree outside.
^ @85bears46, if its the same severe cold that several members of my family have caught where they are located throughout the United States (and some of Europe), that particular illness seems to be everywhere.

I definitely have some major disagreements with the Maroon staff at the editorial level but the Maroon does have some interesting scoops on news and personalities.
