Orientation... Out of state issues?

Hello, i'm an incoming freshman and i'm looking at the orientation dates. The concern is that I live in Florida and I don't really think I have the money to fly up to Boston if I'm going to be turning right around and flying back afterwards. What are my options? During our stay there, do we sleep in dorms or would I have to rent a hotel? Is this mandatory? If I go in August, would I be able to move in at that time?

melol2, I know from my daughter’s portal that you do have to stay there the one night. There is an option to check in early and stay the night before as well but you have to let them know. The check in is very early in the morning, so coming from Florida you will probably want to do it that way.

I saw someone ask a similar question in another post so you should browse for that thread - I think it’s pretty recent.

Orientation is required, you can’t move in after the August orientation (except for the special right-before-classes international student one), and you stay on campus for one or two days depending on when you check in. Even being from out of state doesn’t change the rules- I’m from Florida as well.

Can someone explain the 350$ price tag? Do they pay for travel? I mean, when my sister went to her university’s orientation, it costs over 150$ less. And that orientation was for an entire week.

Excuse me if this sounds unreasonable. But, every cent of this is coming out of my own pocket. I’m sort of counting my pennies here.

Nice to meet you by the way. I’m surprised to see another Floridian :)

Housing, food, resources, advisors… 350 compared to tuition is nothing.

i’m also from out of state (oregon) and there’s actually another orientation session aug. 30-31st that they don’t advertise. if you call the orientation office they can set you up for the later one, and then i’m just going to stay in boston until school starts.

I’m coming from Oregon too! I think unfortunately they are just expecting you to head out to Boston twice (which financially is irritating). I’m going to the June 21 session!

^I agree with porcupine3. You should try calling them. I think a later, more convenient date is possible.

Yes that is true. I just emailed the orientation office and they switched my orientation date to August 30-31st, so you should be fine
