Hey guys. My question is of the utmost importance for my wallet. Do any of you know how long orientation should last? I need to catch the 4:17PM train back to the city if I want to save $59 by not spending the night on campus. Thanks a million.

My orientation lasted until about 4:30 last summer but I guess it depends on what undergraduate college you’re in. Registration takes a looonng time. You basically sit at a table with 10 other kids, sift through tons of papers to see which classes are available and try to make a coherent schedule - then you have to have the adviser approve it, then you have to enter it all in the computer. It takes forever and it’s the last thing you do at orientation.

But why don’t you just stick around campus until 6:49 and transfer at Huntington?

I think orientation is from 8-5

It will help if you pre-formulate a plan as to which classes you want to take 1ST semester. What is your major?

Thanks for the responses, guys. I think I’ll take the NJTransit to New Jersey and crash at my cousin’s place for the night.

@tomatoki: If I catch the 6:49 train, I’ll miss the last bus leaving from NYC to Boston before the subway in Boston shuts down for the night.

@DJStony: I’m planning on double majoring in math and history. I already planned out my classes for my 1st semester. For math courses, I want to do MAT132 Calc 2 and MAT211 Intro to Linear Algebra. For history, I want to do HIS104 American History Since 1877. Do those sound like good choices?

Check the UGB for sample course sequences if you haven’t already: [Stony Brook Undergraduate Bulletin - Fall*2010 - Welcome](http://sb.cc.stonybrook.edu/bulletin/current/).

It’s good that you have some classes already planned out. This will save time and allow you to meet with the enrollment staff before the majority of students start forming a line. Have you already placed on out MAT 131 by taking the Math Placement Exam?

I’m taking the Math Placement Exam on the 19th. However, I am fairly confident that I’ll place out of MAT131. Hopefully a 99 average in Calc AB and consistent 5s on the practice AP exams are good indicators of how will I’ll do on the exam.

Yeah, I’m sure you will do fine. Depending upon your knowledge of BC calculus, you may even place out of the entire 125,126 and 127 series (131/132).
