So what happens at orientation? I was looking at some pictures on the website, but I'd just like to know exactly how the day goes.

Are you starting there in the fall?

twister2015… go to freshman housing thread… petcat posted details of orientation

Orientation is one day that happens in the summer and you will be given a couple of days to choose from. At my orientation there were a lot of icebreakers and different events that went on in order to make students feel more comfortable. You’ll also take your ID picture so be ready for that! At the end of orientation you’ll take a housing tour of all the freshmen dorms and then fill out a survey. On this survey you’ll rank the dorms by which ones you want the most. In that survey you’ll also answer roommate questions such as “What time do you like to go to bed?” and you’ll find out later in the summer the results!

Orientation gives you the opportunity to meet some of your future classmates. It is also what got me really excited to attend Marist prior to my freshman year. During orientation you will be broken up into groups and will be assigned two orientation leaders who are upperclassmen. As a group, you guys will complete various activities and ice breakers. I know this may sound silly; however, these activities get rid of the awkwardness or the nerves some of the incoming freshman may be feeling.

So throughout the day you will continue meeting with new people and making friends. You will have lunch, take your ID picture, and take a tour of the freshman residence halls. Post tour, you will fill out a survey to help housing find a roommate for you.

Personally, I think the coolest part of orientation is that you can ask the questions you want without feeling awkward that it may be a “stupid question” (even though there’s no such thing as a stupid question!). Your orientation leaders create a comfortable environment so you can ask questions like “do we raise our hand to go to the bathroom during class in college” or anything else you may be wondering.
