For those that went to orientation already, what did you guys do there?
And I know that you probably did icebreakers but what kind of icebreakers? I just wanna prepare myself for them because I absolutely hate icebreakers..

We attended last week. The only icebreaker type activity that my son mentioned was done outdoors in groups where they separated the boys from the girls - they struck a pose to be mimicked and pointed to someone else in the circle to take a turn. Judging by UB’s facebook photos they all had a good time. As for everything else - there was a lot of walking, presentations in both large and small groups, and occasions where you could choose from different sessions being offered. Meals were provided, the dorm overnighter came with roommates (and two top sheets and 2 teeny tiny towels), and they had a big party. Here’s a link to their orientation schedule: http://sas.buffalo.edu/advisortools/pdfs/freshmanStudentOrientationSchedule.pdf

first we checked in at wilkerson, got a free bag, the room key and linens (pillow case, 2 sheets/blankets 2 towel) and was told to settle in first. around 10:30 that’s when they’ll start leading small groups to a speech. after speech you’ll be separated by your group number listed on the card they gave u. in that group it’s the people that has the same/similar major as you. mostly you’ll be sticking with them. alot of walking, a lot of free stuff! lol at night after the club fair i walked back to the dorm with my friend and took a shower but we went down for the ice breaker dance and sweated a lot anyway. just enjoy it it’s gonna be great! just remember to bring a fan haha

to answer your questions, we did a few little silly activities

Name and some little movement or gesture that the people in the circle copy

Dead ant- people walking around and ya need a group of 1 to 5 people to do some act where if they said salute, you’d salute quickest or else you were out. If they said tango, it’s a two person activity and you find some random person and do that and so on.
3.Some others groups played ninja and some other stuff but they also told us to form two circles with one inside the other where you would rotate and introduce yourself and talk about a random topic.
4.They also asked for a saying or a quote, and after that, you add “in my pants” to it.
The people there are very friendly and they’re in the same boat as everyone else, all nervous and new to this whole experience. Even during lunch or dinner, just go up to either 1 person or a group and sit with them and introduce yourself. It’s nothing like it was in high school.

Thanks everyone for the reply! You guys were very helpful!(:

Was there a curfew ?

Everyone’s an adult now, they’re not going to do that.

Although I strongly advise not going out to drink/smoke/whatever during orientations. UB has cracked down on Greek organizations that try to hold stuff for the freshmen during orientations, and it’d be sucky to get caught for underage drinking or possession or anything before school even starts. At least wait until the first weekend of school for that.
