Hello All, Just finished signing my daughter up for orientation and I decided to stay in dorms as well to save money, any parent do this in the past? What is orientation like to the students and parents?

They let parents stay in the dorms now?? That must be new. For orientation, from my experience in the past students and parents have been separate. Students will be in groups with upperclassmen “orientation ambassadors” and will have activities and registration with their groups. Parents will have a bunch of information sessions on the first day but the 2nd day is more relaxed. None of the sessions for parents are required so you don’t have to go to all if you don’t wish to. They’ll post an orientation schedule later on.

At our local Clemson reception last month they did say that Parents can now stay in the dorms, but “warned” it is a dorm and be aware that accommodations are in that spirit. Not sure if any from our reception will stay in dorms as we all kind of chuckled at the prospect but @srodier if you are up for it, then I say go for it!!! Might be fun!!

We stayed in the dorm last year during orientation. Assuming it hasn’t changed, you stay in Stadium Suites. While that’s a really nice dorm, it is a dorm. Two single beds. No TV in room. etc. That dorm is a suite style, which is two bedrooms which share a bath. We didn’t have anyone in the room next to us, so we did have the bath to ourselves, but I don’t know if that’s a typical experience.

Oh, be sure to take a blanket. While bedding is provided, the blanket is really thin. Also, students stay completely on the other side of campus in the high rises.

I looked at the orientation website and apparently parent housing is in Barnett this year which is nowhere near as nice as Stadium Suites (just regular dorm rooms, not suite style). And YES bring a blanket, the sheets they give you are really thin

Barnett is at least close to high rises where the students are and to Hendrix. That was one heck of a hike several times a day from Stadium Suites to Hendrix. And you’re right, not nearly as nice as Stadium Suites. I had friends who lived in Barnett when I was there 25 years ago. It wasn’t really that nice then!
