So USC offers orientation on a multitude of different dates from June to July. Are there any specific advantages to attending the earliest orientation possible? I know we get advising and sign up for classes...would it be easier for us to obtain our desired schedule if we go earlier?

yea (10 char)

I spoke with my admissions counselor, Shannon McHugh concerning this. She said that they try to hold back some of each class for each orientation session, but that the good time slots usually get taken at the earlier sessions. Her advice was to come to the earliest one that was convenient for me.

Also, I know you can pay an extra $45 to come in a night early and stay on campus. Does anyone know if you can also do this and stay a night later? Since it's over at 5, the earliest flight I could reasonably catch would be 6:30 or 7, and coming back to my hometown (Oklahoma City) isn't possible on a red eye, so I'll have to spend like a seven hour layover in Dallas. Any suggestions?

does USC have any online course registration thing?

"Also, I know you can pay an extra $45 to come in a night early and stay on campus."

I think they changed it to $50

thanks amazon, that's good to know, they make it out to seem like it doesn't matter which, but i guess that it's only a courtesy gesture

My understanding is entering freshmen HAVE to attend an orientation if they want to register. That's why we attended last year when my S was an entering freshman.

you register for classes online, but you have to meet with an advisor before you can register.

I didn't go to my orientation (none of the sessions that were open were at good times) and so I just went in mid-august and got my advisor to lift my registration hold - though a lot of classes were full by that point.

You may be able to get your advisor to lift your hold by email, so that might be worth investigating.

wat abt international orientation? it's held aug 20-24...do they leave slots for internationals?

They might leave a few slots open, but really, it's not a huge gigantic deal. There are still loads of classes open at that point, it's just you might not get your first pick.

Things worked out for me, I just took courses for my major (GE courses are the ones that fill up) and put off GE's for a later semester (though I still have a rather large number to finish at this point :) )
