Orientation

For all those who've been - how was it? Fun, boring, interesting..... Is there anything special you would have liked to bring with you that is not on the list? Did registration really last until 5:00? Did it help to pick out your classes ahead of time (even if they are all listed as full)?

Any input would be most appreciated - thanks

I had orientation during the first session last month. Orientation was interesting, but the workshops and things you go to vary from boring to interesting. I think I would have gotten an extra pillow from home to bring to orientation. Registration does not last until 5, if you don’t take a long time to sign up for classes. I finished around 2:30-2:45. I did pick a few classes ahead of time (before orientation). For certain courses that are full, you would be allowed to sign up b/c they open a few spots up for each orientation.

Orientation was pretty decent, but it was basically a lot of stuff to listen to for long periods of time so it definitely got boring sometimes. But a lot of the information they give you will probably answer a lot of your questions, I guess the interest of it is pretty personal.

Definitely get out of your shell to meet new people. They have a couple opportunities to - when they separate you by majors to go listen to your academic sessions and the lunch right after is separated by major as well, so you can connect with people in the same field. The other meals are pretty much, sit with who you want. Might want to make a few friends and join with another “group” of friends, might strike up some interesting conversation!

I didn’t pick any classes before orientation so it was all new to me! It definitely would have helped though. It’s totally a bummer to want a class, schedule it, & then find out it’s filled. If you know what you want, you can just bing-bang-boom and you’re done. But you could always register again back at home if you want to change up your schedule when they open new spots :)
