Orientation

if you are in dual credit, do your advisors expect to already have your transcript from your community college when you register for your classes? I’m going to the first session, but my application status check still says that the transcript is not required at this time.

It would be nice to bring it with you. Otherwise, you can just tell them that your anticipating getting credit for a class so they don’t make you take it again.

Do the advisors see transfers in groups or individually?

I would think it would be individually just like freshman.

Last summer we had the opportunity to meet with them one on one if we wanted to. It wasn’t required though. I didn’t need to see them so I skipped it.

so when you register for classes, are you by yourself or with a counselor? and if you’re by yourself, is it through the computer?

Thats good, because I do have some specific questions and i’d like to meet with an adviser one-on-one. Is lunch provided for the students?

There was no lunch provided at my transfer one last summer.

do most people go to orientation without knowing anyone or do they usually go with friends they already know?

How do you eat? Because its from 8-4:30, I thought there would at least be free food.

There are tons of places to eat, either on campus or off. Orientation does not last every minute of that time block. You’ll have time.

I Hope UT, it really depends. I went with one guy from my high school and we roomed together and partied together, but most of the people in my orientation wing were rooming with the person they happened to be in line next to.

Haha I don’t want to sound like a dork, but will they have guides telling us where to go? Because I don’t know where anything is, and for lunch I don’t want to wander off somewhere and be completely lost. UT is huge.

Yes, don’t worry. You will be given a very descriptive map and the orientation advisors are really helpful. They’re very friendly and if you ask anyone for help, they will be more than happy to assist you.

It’s not that big. It feels way smaller after you have been there for a while.

If you have to go somewhere with your orientation group you might walk together, mine did. Sometimes during a big event like the comedy show or those dumb awareness assembly things there are advisors standing outside directing you but you pretty much find the specific meetings like the testing and whatnot on your own.

Don’t loose your map and don’t be scared to ask someone for help. =P
