orientation

how do you go about choosing orientation dates? do they give you a date or do you just request a date?

Starting April 1st, you can go online and choose which orientation session you want to. But sign up early! Last year I waited till May 1st (well I had no choice since I still hadn’t decided where I was going) and my first 2 choices were gone.

Is it better for a student to do as early as orientation as possible or try for a July date, when the AP exam results might be in? If you go in June and they don’t have your scores yet, how do you register for classes when you think you might AP out of some? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Earlier is better – more classes and sections of classes will be available at the beginning – and for AP, they’ll tell you to assume that you get the credit and register for an appropriate course – there are fewer sections of higher level Calcs, Chems, etc., than the lower levels, which will be easier to get into later, if you don’t have the credit.

yeah the advisors tell you to assume AP credit and register that way (since it’s easier to drop down than go up).

By the way, if you get credit for AP Calculus BC, TAKE THE CREDIT! MTHSC 108 (Calculus II) is possibly the most miserable class I’ve ever taken. I got my 2nd exam back today and the class average was a 62%. Rumors are that it’s the most failed class at Clemson haha

Thanks so much for the advice, Pierre and Intheknow…if my son ends up at Clemson we will try to get an early date and have him use the Calc APcredit if he thinks he does well (which he is hoping to!).

And be sure to sign up for an orientation date ASAP, early dates go fast!
