I have a question about the original research supplement that is on most applications. I'm doing some original research, but it's not exactly cancer research. Can anyone tell me if these topics are worth including as part of an application?

"Comparing Conceptions of Infinite Divinity in the Zohar and the Prajnaparamita" (comparative religion - Madhyamika Buddhism and Kabbalistic Judaism)

and

"Meningitis Awareness and Preparedness in High School Students" (basically an epidemiological study on meningitis prevention)

So should I submit abstracts for one or both of these? They are both original research.

I repeat: BUMPITY BUMP!!!

yeh I have the same question so BUMP

no, don't annoy the adcom officers with stuff they may not understand, itll be like talking down to them. what id do is mention that you wrote them and if u get deferred send the actual papers in--its never good to look intellectually snobbish and confusing, look like a real human who will fill their campus with a lively AND smart atmosphere not just schoolish. just put the titles down in the additional info section and maybe an abstract.

Alrighty. I wasn't going to submit the whole papers anyway, just abstracts. I'll think about it.

I totally disagree with totallysweet's advice. Send the stuff in (abstract, full paper is fine as well) and let the adcom decide what they want to do with it. Usually if you send in an abstract or paper, they forward it to the appropriate department. If it's worth anything the department will let the adcom know; if not, they just won't say anything (very similar to the process of sending music supplements). The adcom would never read scientific research and judge its merits, because that's obviously not their area of expertise.

Send everything in that can strengthen your application, as long as you truly believe that it's quality stuff.

hey Gorb,
have you thought about submitting your papers to competitions? maybe this would be meaningful to adcoms, etc.

Ok. I'm submitting the second one to the Young Epidemiology Scholars competition.

With the other one, though, I don't even know of any competitions where it would be applicable. It's such a weird topic, I don't know if there is much I can do with it.
