I am completing my application to OSU. I’m worried about getting in, it’s so much harder these days and I am frankly somewhat mediocre according to their standards now - 3.761 GPA (should be higher but school only calcs. twice a year), 30 ACT, non-competitive rural HS, school does not weight grades so I am in the top 12-13%, not 10% - everything is combined along with the vocational students, etc., who don’t go to our school anymore. My GPA would be 3.8 to 4.00 if I hadn’t fooled around my freshman year and gotten several B’s, something I deeply regret and that my parents warned me about but of course I didn’t listen back then…

I don’t see any place on the application or the counselor form that asks about the curriculum at your school, and our school with the terrible counselor does not send a profile. Since our school does not offer honors (only something they call “enriched”) and 3 AP’s, is this really going to hurt my chances? I can’t help that our school isn’t considered competitive overall, but several of my AP and “enriched” teachers are/were very, very good and challenging. I feel kind of cheated that I would be penalized by where I have to go to HS. Sports, band, 4-H, and other stuff didn’t allow me to take PSEO.

I see an area for “special circumstances”, but that’s not quite what it’s for…

I sent an e-mail to askabuckeye but haven’t gotten a response - there doesn’t appear to be a separate application for scholarships or honors/scholars program - are those things just automatically considered upon the application?

I also don’t see any teacher recommendations required for the application or most scholarships. I saw the previouos post on this, but the answer isn’t really clear - should I send one or not worry about it?

Our counselor is terrible, but I know he is busy, too (only one for whole school). He tried to tell me I was a “shoo-in” for OSU which just showed me how clueless he is about current college admissions, especially OSU. I didn’t correct him, but I sure felt like it before he misleads other kids who might not know.
