If my first choice on the common app was the honour programme and I do not get accepted can I still be considered for the scholar programme because I could not find any information addressing that when I was on the website

I think that if you submitted the application for Scholars you automatically are considered for Honors too. Good luck, my son is applying for engineering and scholars. We are oos and since he should qualify for Nat’l Buckeye and maybe a little Merit aid OSU would be close to our in state School’s cost. If he gets in he’ll be a Buckeye!

Thank you and best of luck to your son

If you aren’t accepted for Honors I think you will be considered for Scholars, but I don’t believe it works the other way around. Remember, the two are very different programs (from OSU website):
“Honors is for students who desire to pursue a more rigorous curriculum and have a strong interest in conducting research during their undergraduate career.
Scholars is for students who desire a small, close-knit community and are passionate about the theme of a specific Scholars program.”

Still keep this in mind (from their website): “Please note that you can only join the Scholars Program as an incoming freshman. However, currently enrolled Ohio State students (including transfers) can pursue membership in the Honors Program. Therefore, Scholars students who meet Honors Program criteria after being on campus for at least one semester may apply to the Honors Program directly through their college of enrollment.”

Okay I should be okay then because I choose Honour as my first choice

Neither Honors nor scholars is exclusive: it is possible to be in both. They are separate questions on the application. There is no inherent assumption that denied applicants from one desire to be considered for the other.

Notifications are sent mid-January to mid-February.

On the Common App you rate which one is your first choice. If Honors program is your first choice and you don’t get accepted, you are automatically considered for Scholars, and vice versa. However, if you are accepted into Scholars and you are in your freshman year at OSU, you can also be in honors, but that’s only if you are in Scholars. But that is around the middle of your first year in college or later.
