OSU transfer from OOS CC chances?

Hello, new here. Thought I would give this a shot.

I didn’t do so well in high school, mostly because of laziness, and partly because of some obstacles which I had to overcome. I enrolled into a Community College in Washington in hopes of getting a transfer degree and attending a University, but I’m unsure if the odds are in my favor.

I have just finished up my first year of college. Because I am paying for college, rent, phone, insurance, etc… by myself, I do not have very much money, so I was only able to take two courses per quarter.

Courses/grades:
Fall
-College Precalculus, C
-Computer Science (Java programming), B

Winter
-Calculus I, B
-Advanced Computer Science (more Java), C+

Spring
-Calculus II, B
-English 101, B- (always struggled with English)

Over the summer I will be taking Calculus III, and I have already signed up for my fall quarter of next year, which will be:
-General Engineering Physics 1 (out of 3)
-Calculus IV (highest I can go, then it’s off to Diff. EQ and Lin. Alg.)
-French 1 (because nothing else fit into my schedule, and I figured I could knock out an elective credit)

My GPA at the moment is a 2.6, which, from what I have gathered from other posts on this board, is higher than the “competitive” GPA.

By the end of fall quarter, I will have a total of 52 credits which will put me over the requirement.

I’m not sure about the transfer chances, but I would check and make sure that you need a foreign language credit. It looks like you are an engineering major. My daughter took the placement test at orientation and received 10 hours credit for a foreign language, but she doesn’t need it as part of her program.

I am indeed an Electrical and Computer Engineering major, and it looks like I don’t need a language credit specifically, so it would be applied towards my GEC courses.

Ok. Just wanted you to take only what you need. Maybe things have changed. My daughter had to choose 35 hours of GECs from these categories:

English & Communication Skills (10)
Historical Study (5-10)
Arts & Humanities (5-10)
Social Sciences (5-10)
Ethics (5)
Social Diversity (May overlap with another GEC category)

Good luck to you!

Bumping for chances

You might be able to get in but you generally need around a 3.0 to actually be accepted into a specific engineering program which you can apply for after you take the rest of the pre-reqs. If you are not strong in science it could be a challenge.

The requirement for the engineering school is a 2.8 GPA. As of now I think I have a 2.6, which I hope to raise by the end of fall quarter to a 3.0. If I don’t directly enroll into the engineering program, I will be automatically enrolled into the Science and Technology exploration program, as noted on their transfer requirements page.

In high school, chemistry, physics, and mathematics were the three subjects I actually enjoyed and did very well in.

if you do what you say you will, you will have a fine chance,

as for the foreign language, you may be able to get away without any if you took two-three years in h.s. or you might have to take an introductory course, but I’m not completely sure

Prior to entering community college, I had studied Spanish for about 7 years (used to live in southern California) through all of my high school years, and I can honestly say that I don’t want to take any more Spanish classes. :P
